UMBC is situated in the heart of the greater Washington, D.C., corridor just south of Baltimore—placing it right in the heart of the Maryland/Washington D.C. school region. A perfect location for Erickson School, this region has the largest concentration of government, interest groups, and scientific agencies in the world, including nearly every major institution and organization addressing the concerns of the nation’s public health, economy, and security.

The two most important institutions managing federal social security and health programs are located in Baltimore just miles from the Erickson School: the Social Security Administration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Washington, D.C., just 35 miles away, is home to the world’s premier medical research agency, the National Institute of Health, which includes the National Institute for Aging, a global leader in research and understanding of the human aging process and special needs of the aging. Also in D.C. is the U.S. Census Bureau, the leading monitor of the nation’s population and economy. And spearheading federal policies on aging are government agencies such as the U.S. Administration on Aging and U.S. Senate Special Committee on Aging.

The nation’s capitol is home to AARP, the American Society on Aging, the American Aging Association, and hundreds of institutions and associations representing industries, nonprofits, think tanks, universities, and other groups with a stake in the globe’s rapidly growing aging population.
